Bioswales- Are linear swales that are planted with native plants to improve water quality and replace typically sodded swales or piped ditches.

Bioswales:

  •  Improve Water Quality using soil and vegetation as a biological filter

  •   Reduce total volume of stormwater runoff

  •  Increase infiltration and groundwater recharge

  •  Provide an aesthetic landscape

feature that increases biodiversityand provides habitat for wildlife

Check out the slideshow below that shows step by step how we created a bioswale in our existing drainage ditch.  This project was generously funded in part by Sarasota County's Neighborhood Grants Program.  We'd like to thank the Sarasota County Board of Commissioners, Vickie French, Rob Wright and all of our fantastic volunteers who contributed their time and energy to make this project happen.
